Day three of the amazing Italy adventure was spent in actual downtown Naples. My brother took the day off work to play tour guide to Dan and I. We hopped on the train that stops just down the street from their home and off we went to explore. Fortunately most of the places we went to my brother had not seen yet, so it was a fun plight for all.
Our first stop was the monastery we'd seen the day before from the rooftop of Castle St. Elmo. The monastery is Certosa e Museo Nazionale di San Martino. We toured the halls, the beautiful and intricate chapel, and the grounds which included a beautiful cemetery. Other than us there weren't many tourists there which made the quiet atmosphere fit perfectly into the scenic view of the bay.
We spent a few moment wandering through the Galleria Umberto I and stopping for a little gelato break.
We also saw the Castel Nuovo - Maschio Angioino. Not only did I make my brother and I pose with statues, but it's a great structure complete with a mote. Though the mote was full of cars and building materials, not water. Slightly disappointing from what you'd expect to find in a mote. The older gentlemen that we bought tickets from were kind enough to give me a counting lesson in Italian - mainly how to count in Italian with your fingers. In Naples, you start counting with your thumb, not your first finger.
More wanderings led us to the Basilica di San Francesco di Paola Napoli which was directly across from the palace.

Those statues up at the top are life size. Everything is very detailed and ornate down to the last little thing.
After seeing the palace we took a walk along the bay towards Castle Uvo (I think that's the name) which sits directly on the water. The view was of course incredible. And that was day 3 in Italy.
